Alia Bhatt as Gangubai Kathiawadi

If you are a fellow Bollywood fan, constantly checking Celebrity Insta Updates then you must have come across Alia Bhatt’s one of the recent posts where she shares the poster of her new movie- Gangubai Kathiawadi, a Sanjay Leela Bhansali visionary. 

The movie finally has a release date of 6th January,2022. Gangubai Kathiawadi joins the list of dozens of movies that are set to have a theatrical opening in the coming months.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographical crime-drama tracing the life of a simple girl named Gangubai from Kathiawad who became the most powerful, loved and respected madams from Kamathipura during the 1960s.

 It is touted to be loosely based on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi, and has Alia Bhatt playing the titular role.

The film went on floors in December 2019 but was put on hold due to the spread of the coronavirus in March 2020. Filming resumed in October 2020, but had to stop again after director Sanjay Leela Bhansali contracted the virus. Later, Alia also tested positive for Covid-19. The movie eventually wrapped up in June 2021.

Alia Bhatt’s love interest Ranbir Kapoor has reportedly loved the film so much that he feels she will get a National Award. Both actors in their craft are amazing as ever.

Reportedly, Ranbir has seen a few parts of the film and has been quite impressed. And that is the reason why he keeps raving to everyone about girlfriend Alia's film. In fact, a close friend of Ranbir told Bollywood Hungama, that the Shamshera actor predicts that Alia will win a national award for this film.

For those who don't know, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial had been courting some controversies. Also, the film's release kept getting pushed due to the pandemic, but now we will get to witness this magnanimous story come to life on the big screen on 6th January 2022. Alia is surely starting the new year on a great note and I can only count the days for this film to release.
