Shorts to Watch

 

Short movies and series are highly appreciated and celebrated in today’s fast-paced world, not to forget this genre was taken up by some famous writers from Rabindranath Tagore to Satyajit Ray. 

While these were the legends of short stories, today’s writers and directors are no less when it comes to brilliant execution and binding together of characters and actors. 1.  Game and the player-

Back in the day, we have heard many stories about how kids think of themselves as the characters in the stories. Well in this case an 8-year-old boy resonates with the legend of Ramayana. The boy reads about Ravana and Sita and how lord Ram saved Sita from the hell of Lanka. So much so that the kid thinks that his life right now is the same as the story of Ramayana and he tries to save his mother Satiya from real-life Ravan.

 

A different take on the mythologies with brilliant acting and direction, a must-watch short. 

3.          Gentleman 

The movie is about a preteen kid, who belongs to the less fortunate side of society, for a kid his conscience is high and he does not want to do the same work as his parents. He wants to do something that will give him respect and will make him a gentleman. 

Walking through the city his heart thrives for something better and he looks around the fast-moving world trying to find his purpose.

In the end, we see him craft a makeshift costume and stand in the middle of the street and catch on to everyone’s attention. He might not have found the work of a gentleman but the underlying metaphor is beautiful. From someone who has always been down in the dumps quite literally, he now stands in the streets at a height above everyone else and the center of attention. 

Brilliantly written and executed movie, that has the potential of inspiring all of us.

4.          2 sided

 

The movie is all about self-discovery, a very short but beautiful movie indeed, talking about two sides of humans and how you can embrace rather than neglect your other sides. What we see is a confused man who already knows his reality but is not ready to accept it until he gets validation from someone else, in this case, a tarot card reader. We do not want to spoil the message here but the movie is short, crisp, and yet amazing. Must watch today on Mzaalo.
